Orbis IO is a UK fleet intelligence platform that reads data directly from connected vehicles over manufacturer-authorised APIs — real fuel consumption, charging behaviour, battery health and mileage — instead of relying on WLTP estimates, fuel-card receipts or telematics dongles. Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007, organisations face significant liability if an employee is involved in a road traffic incident and compliance records cannot be produced.

Approval routing you choose
Before each scheduled check runs, an approval request goes out on one of two routes, set by your organisation. Either the driver receives it and confirms or cancels the check directly, or a nominated administrator receives it and approves or denies it, with the driver getting an informational notice. Driver confirmation suits fleets that want minimal admin overhead; administrator approval suits fleets that need a compliance sign-off in the audit trail.

Driver gives explicit permission
When a driver is added, Orbis sends an automated welcome email requesting consent to search, with a GDPR notice covering the purpose of the search and the driver's rights — including the right to be forgotten.
Driver or administrator signs off
Ahead of each scheduled check, an approval request is issued on the route your organisation has configured — to the driver to confirm or cancel, or to a nominated administrator to approve or deny. Either route is logged with a timestamp and an audit entry.
Live call to the DVLA
Orbis queries the DVLA database directly and results return within seconds. The driver is notified, and results are shared only with authorised personnel within your organisation.

Does a driver have to consent to a DVLA check?
Yes. Orbis requests explicit consent before any search, with a GDPR notice explaining the purpose of the search and the driver's rights, including the right to be forgotten.
