The short version
Chevin Fleet Solutions was established in 1990 and states that FleetWave is used in over 180 countries to manage more than a million vehicles and associated assets. That is a genuinely deep, mature product with a long track record in workshop, maintenance and asset management at scale.
Orbis IO is narrower and newer. It takes vehicle data directly from manufacturer APIs rather than from installed hardware, and it is built around the decisions UK fleets are making right now: which vehicles to electrify, what the company car tax exposure looks like across a four-year cycle, and how to keep compliance evidence current. If your fleet is UK-based and those are your questions, that focus is the reason to look at us. If it is not, it is the reason to look elsewhere.
When Chevin is the better choice
Be direct about this: several kinds of buyer should talk to Chevin rather than to us.
- Large, mixed, asset-heavy fleets. Chevin manages vehicles "and associated assets", and that breadth matters if you are tracking plant, trailers, equipment and vehicles in one system.
- Multinational operations. A platform in use across 180 countries has solved problems a UK-focused product has not had to.
- Deep workshop and maintenance management. This is Chevin's heartland and has been for over thirty years.
- Highly configurable enterprise deployments. If you need the system shaped around established internal processes, that is a different requirement from wanting something that works out of the box.
When Orbis IO is the better choice
- Your fleet is UK-based and electrifying. The EV transition questions, BIK exposure and salary sacrifice economics are the centre of the product, not a module.
- You do not want hardware in the vehicles. Data comes from manufacturer APIs, so there is nothing to install, fit or maintain.

Cells reading "not published" mean we could not find a public statement either way, not that the answer is unfavourable. Chevin's product may well do these things; it simply does not say so publicly in terms we could cite. If anything here is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will correct it.
On the two-pound difference at the entry tier
Chevin Core is £5 per vehicle per month and Orbis Essentials is £6.95, so we are the more expensive entry tier and it is worth being straight about what the difference buys.
Two things sit inside our entry price that Chevin places on its Advanced tier behind Contact Sales: P11D reporting, and a DVLA licence check for every driver once a year. Licence-checking bureaus charge between £5 and £10 for a single check. On a fleet where drivers and vehicles run roughly one to one, an annual check per driver is worth somewhere between £0.42 and £0.83 per vehicle per month on its own, which is most of the difference in the headline before P11D is counted at all. If you already pay a bureau for licence checking, that line stops being a separate invoice.
The honest version of the comparison is therefore not "cheaper" but "the compliance work is priced in rather than quoted." If your fleet does not need P11D or licence checking, Chevin Core is the cheaper entry tier and we would not argue otherwise.
The difference that actually matters: where the data comes from
Traditional fleet management software is a system of record. You put data into it, from drivers, from workshops, from fuel cards, from telematics units, and it organises that data and reports on it. FleetWave is a mature example of that model and it works.
Orbis IO starts from a different place. The vehicle already knows its own mileage, its own battery state, its own fault codes, and modern vehicles transmit that to the manufacturer. We take it from there, through the manufacturer's own interface, which means there is no hardware to install and no data entry step for the things the vehicle already reports.
That approach has a real limit and it is worth stating: it only works for vehicles whose manufacturer offers that access, which in practice means newer vehicles from participating brands. What you can see without talking to anyone
This is the one place we would genuinely encourage a comparison. Fleet software is usually bought after a demo, which means the buyer sees the product through a salesperson.
