Business vehicle EV cost calculator
Could switching to electric reduce your vehicle costs?
If a company car or van is due for replacement, see whether an electric alternative could cost less over your next lease and suit the real-life way it's used day-to-day.
Tell us about the vehicle, its mileage and where it could charge. We'll estimate the cost difference over your chosen contract term and show electric options that could cover its regular journeys.

Which vehicle are you thinking of replacing?
Estimates from the information you give and the assumptions shown, not a quotation. About these figures and their sources
About these figures
- Is this a quote?
- No. These are estimates from the information you give and the assumptions listed with each result. Live prices for the named vehicles come from a fleet specialist, who checks them before any offer.
- How is the cost difference worked out?
- It compares what your current vehicle and each electric option would cost over the contract term, on business contract hire, excluding recoverable VAT: on a car, the half of the VAT on the lease rental that a business cannot reclaim is included. It covers the lease, maintenance, energy, electric vehicle excise duty (eVED) for the months from April 2028, employer NIC on benefit in kind and, if the electric vehicle would charge at home, installing a home charger. Each result shows what each of these adds or saves, rounded to the nearest £100, so the lines may not add up exactly to the total. Insurance is not included, as business contract hire does not include it. It is calculated by the Orbis platform, powered by Covase.
- What if my vehicle is no longer sold?
- We keep your vehicle’s details as you gave them, including its CO₂ figure, which sets the tax. For the lease and running costs we use the closest current model: the same model where it is still offered, otherwise one with the same body type and similar CO₂. The result names it under “Cost comparison based on”. If you give your current monthly rental, we use that instead of the current model’s lease.
- Can I change the charging and fuel prices?
- Yes. Next to the result are the share of charging done at home or a depot, the home and public electricity prices and the pump price we used. Change any of them and recalculate. Our starting figures are HMRC’s advisory electric rates, DESNZ’s non-domestic electricity price for a depot and DESNZ’s weekly pump prices.
- How do you decide whether an electric vehicle suits my use?
- We compare your longest regular day with each electric vehicle’s official (WLTP) range, keeping a reserve for cold weather, motorway driving and battery ageing, and check whether it can recharge overnight on a 7 kW charger. Missing information never counts in favour of a vehicle.
- Does the CO₂ figure include electricity generation?
- No. It is exhaust (tailpipe) emissions only. It excludes electricity generation and vehicle manufacturing, so an electric vehicle is not zero-carbon over its life.
- Where do the vehicles and prices come from?
- From our current contract-hire pricing, which gives the vehicles, their WLTP ranges and the prices behind each cost difference. Each result gives its date under “Assumptions used”.
- Where do the energy-use figures come from?
- Official type-approval figures: the UK Vehicle Certification Agency first, and the European Environment Agency’s register of new EU cars where the UK figure is not published.
Contains public sector information from the Vehicle Certification Agency. Contains EEA data: Monitoring of CO2 emissions from passenger cars (European Commission, DG CLIMA), CC BY 4.0; aggregated by make, model, power, energy use and range.
